A Letter to Me from My Wise Self

Dear Miss Stephanie,

I hope this finds you doing well since we last spoke. You were telling me the things deep in your heart and what you’ve been doing and wishing you had done or wishing you could still do with the rest of your life.

I know your medical condition limits you in very specific avenues as to what you can and can’t do. I know you would love to run a marathon or just run as long as you want and not get so out of breath. Remember, that although you may not be able to accomplish every desire you may have, like running a marathon, you can fulfill a lot of your desires that have been waning in your heart, just waiting for you to grasp onto them and let them lead you to greatness.

You have so much to bring to the table and your gifts that have been bestowed upon you are aching to be put on high like a lamp that shines upon the whole neighborhood. You must take the time now and let your gifts this universe gave you shine. Your gifts of writing and painting, and letting us see through your eyes — eyes that have witnessed a great deal of tragedy and pain, yet, eyes that have seen joy and happiness. Our souls are yearning to see through your eyes. We want to witness what you’ve witnessed in your lifetime.

You have so much to offer and share with us that needs to be told. Please don’t give up or shrink back in fear. Don’t worry if it’s wrong or right. Just do it. With whatever time is left for you, use it to show us. Show us your strength, love, honor, and wisdom in what you need and want to say.

Remember the play you saw with Elaine, called, “Score”, about the life of Leonard Bernstein? He tells us that there is not much time left, so do whatever you were meant to do and do it with all your heart. And learn from one another; work together and lead by example.

My dearest Stephanie, May you have the strength and wisdom needed to accomplish your dreams and desires. You have the gifts, now treasure these gifts and go forward in sharing your gifts with those you come in contact with, and don’t forget your roots, where you’ve come from and where you’re going.

In the stream of time, we are but a speck of dirt to our creator, but without each grain of sand there would be no beautiful beaches, without a particle of dust there would be no beautiful sunsets, and without a speck of dirt we wouldn’t be able to grow beautiful gardens of lotuses and roses.

Remember my long labors of toiling and plundering each of my grand things, so you go forth and do the same. Guide and nurture your gifts and in doing so you will be guiding and nurturing those you reach in heart and spirit.

May your life be long and fruitful!

~ Your wise and loving guide, nurturer, and friend. And don’t forget to take your vitamins C! And E!

  1. And take your Sam-e too!
I'm reminded of how often I waste energy thinking of things I cannot do (like pick anything up!). Sometimes it feels like controlling my focus is impossible and I walk through life saying "Can't do that, not that either." Worse, I feel bad while I think it! Yikes!
So, thanks for the reminder... I'll keep on keepin' on (u-2). Excelsior!
